December at Paradise Balti - Wednesday 11th

The table is booked for our December meeting!  Assuming that most of us won't be out canvassing for our favoured candidate in the General Election, we'll go to Paradise Balti for our last get-together of 2019, a fortnight before Christmas.  Please note -  Wednesday night instead of Tuesday!

We'll go to the Charles Street Tap for aperitifs, from about 19:30, and then dinner will be at 20:30.  Please let me know either by e-mail in response to this members' meeting notice or using the feedback page on our web site whether you expect to make it.    We need to know as early as possible as space and places are both limited.

By the way, the web site also has a link to our Amazon affiliate shop.  We receive small fees when people buy things using that link, and these can contribute to the beer kitty.  It's been ages since we had a payment but we enjoyed a £25 reduction on our bill in October.  Happy days!  Here's something to tempt for Christmas - a cookbook from the delightful Dishoom restaurants which was published in September and is on The Sunday Times bestseller lists - click here!

Hope to see you for the pre-Christmas meeting - should be a good one!

Spice Lounge in November!

Restaurant picture
We visited in January - not bad - but we hear it's improved since.  Early last year, the menu changed direction to something that looked expensive and very short of interesting dishes.  Now it's offering a full menu including some really hot dishes (phall, naga) as well as more sensible favourites.

I haven't ordered the kulchi lamb yet, but if at least eight people ask for it by 6 pm Saturday, I'll make a call.  The spiced up version was really quite good.

Aperitifs will be at the Old Drum from about 7.30 pm and then dinner will be at 8.30.  Please let me know either by e-mail in response to the members' meeting notice or using the feedback page on our web site whether you expect to make it.

Let's look forward to a great evening on Tuesday 12th November!

October meeting - Chill Nights - Tuesday 8th

It's October (well it will be tomorrow) and it's time to visit Chilli Nights, Wey Hill, Haslemere.  The table is booked for our October meeting which will take place on Tuesday 8th.  As usual when we're in this neck of the woods, we'll meet for aperitifs at the restaurant from 19:30-ish.  Dinner is booked for 20:30.

Please let me know either using the feedback form on the web site or in response to the e-mail notice to members whether or not you expect to be there.  I'd like to know as soon as possible but definitely by Monday morning (7th) please, so that we can adjust the booking if necessary.

Chilli Nights always looks after us well, but we couldn't assemble enough members to meet there as planned in June and a few of us went to Gurkha Durbar instead.  Coincidentally something similar happened last year.  Let's hope we can do better this time and have a great evening on 8th October - hope to see you there!

Malabon - Wednesday 14th August

 malabon.co.uk

The table is booked!  Our next meeting will be at Malabon in Petersfield, on Wednesday 14th August.  Aperitifs will be at the Red Lion from about 7.30, and then dinner is at 8.30.

Ouch - we're well into the summer holidays and the Christmas chocolate is already on sale in the shops! The year seems to be running away, but we can cheer ourselves up with a beer and a curry, and maybe there'll even be a chance to congratulate the newly weds, if they're not celebrating in some exotic place.

The restaurant have a busy Wednesday night and space is limited - it may be difficult or impossible to accommodate extra people at the last moment.  We need to let them know numbers on Monday evening so please let me know through the feedback page on the web site or in response to the e-mail to members whether you expect to make it or not.

The cooking's always good there, so let's hope we have a great turnout!

Bay Leaf, Wednesday 10th July

The table is booked!  We're looking forward to a visit to the Bay Leaf in Grayshott on Wednesday 10th July.  Aperitifs will be at the Fox and Pelican (front bar) from about 7:30 and then dinner is at 8:30.

We always enjoy ourselves at the Bay Leaf - for many members, it's their favourite venue.

Please let me know as soon as possible whether you expect to be there, either using the feedback page of the web site or in answer to the meeting notice e-mail which will be sent to members shortly.  To make sure we have enough places, please respond as early as possible, ideally by 8 p.m. on Monday.  Looking forward to a great evening!

Wed 10th April - Madhuban!

The table is booked!  A trip to Madhuban in Liss is long overdue and it's time to put that right.  We'll do that on Wednesday 10th.  Aperitifs will be at the Spread Eagle from about 19:30 and then dinner is at 20:30.

We love the cooking and the welcome at Madhuban, and this is one not to be missed.

Please let me know either by using the feedback page on our web site or by responding to this e-mail, whether you expect to make it or not. Hope to see many of our members there for a great evening!

Petersfield meeting cancelled 😧

The only participants for tonight's meeting are Grayshott-based and so we've decided that it's not worth a trip to Petersfield, particulary given the revolting driving conditions.  It's a shame, we'll have to wait for another chance to enjoy the cooking at Malabon.

In its place, we're fixing up a Grayshott get-together this evening via WhatsApp.  We'll make a decision about April then.

Tuesday 5 March 2019

Malabon - Tuesday 12th March

The table is booked!  Our March meeting will be at Malabon in Petersfield, on Tuesday 12th.  Aperitifs will be at the Red Lion from about 7.30, and then dinner is at 8.30.

The restaurant have a busy Tuesday night and space is limited.  We need to let them know numbers on Monday evening so please let me know through the feedback page on the web site or in response to the e-mail to members whether you expect to make it or not.

The cooking's always good there, so let's look forward to a great curry evening.

Tuesday 5 February 2019

Bay Leaf, Tue 12th Feb

The table is booked!  We're looking forward to a visit to the Bay Leaf in Grayshott on Tuesday 12th February.  Aperitifs will be at the Fox and Pelican (front bar) from about 7:30 and then dinner is at 8:30.

We always enjoy ourselves at the Bay Leaf - for many members, it's their favourite venue.  Hard luck to those who are away in the Caribbean next week, but I expect that the sunshine, rum and some goat curry will help to make up for what you're missing.

Please let me know as soon as possible whether you expect to be there, either using the feedback page of the web site or in answer to the meeting notice e-mail which will be sent to members shortly.  Looking forward to a great evening!

Monday 7 January 2019

Spice Lounge on 15th Jan!

We haven't been to the Spice Lounge since December 2017.  Early last year, the menu changed direction to something that looked expensive and very short of interesting dishes.  Fortunately it's back as an Indian restaurant and we're booked to go there on Tuesday 15th.  That's a week later than the usual schedule, but we felt at the last meeting that the 8th was just too close to New Year.

I haven't ordered the kulchi lamb yet, but if at least eight people ask for it by 6 pm Saturday, I'll make a call and see what they can do - if it's on the new menu.  The spiced up version was really quite good.

Aperitifs will be at the Old Drum from about 7.30 pm and then dinner will be at 8.30.  Please let me know either by e-mail in response to the members' meeting notice or using the feedback page on our web site whether you expect to make it.

As evidence that the restaurant has changed direction, there's a new web site including new menu and a promotions/offers page.  That looks enterprising, they've obviously got ideas, so let's look forward to a great evening on Tuesday 15th of January.
