Tue 11th July - Fewa Inn, Whitehill

The table is booked! We had a great time at the Bay Leaf in June, and we're looking forward to the opening of Dili in Haslemere in the near future.  We decided at June's meeting that we'll go somewhere else that's new in July, the Fewa Inn in Whitehill. This is a Gurkha restaurant in what used to be a pub under various names - it's been The Roadmaker, The Outback, and the Prince of Wales at various points in its history. 

 I went there last night for a recce and the waiter recognised me as he'd worked at the Gurkha Durbar at some point. The menu isn't as extensive as the Gurkha Durbar but I enjoyed my food and can report that non-alcoholic beer (Bavaria 0.0) was available. It's a large comfortable room with Nepali decorations and it has plenty of room for us. There's a decent sized car park at the back and plenty of on-street parking if that's full. 

Whitehill and the surrounding area are a little bit of a desert for pubs - although its population is bigger than both Alton and Petersfield, there's only one pub in town. So aperitifs will be at the Woodlark from about 7 pm and then we drive the short distance (0.3 miles or 2 minutes away) to the Fewa Inn for dinner at 8.

June - Bay Leaf

The table is booked!  We’re going to Bay Leaf, Grayshott, again in June.  Our meeting is on Tuesday 13th.

Aperitifs will be at the Fox and Pelican (front bar) from about 7 pm and then dinner is at 8. 

We always enjoy ourselves at the Bay Leaf.  For many members, it's the favourite venue.  We rarely go to the same place three times in twelve months but it's so good, we couldn't resist.

Chilli Night(s) - Tuesday 9th May!

 

The table is booked for our May meeting which will take place on Tuesday 9th.  That’s the day after the Coronation weekend including the bank holiday Monday. We last visited this restaurant in July, and had a great evening.  

Aperitifs will be at the Mill Tavern from 7-ish.  It's about ten minutes' walk to the restaurant or three minutes by car.  Dinner is booked for 8 pm.

Please let me know either using the feedback form on the web site or in response to the e-mail notice to members whether or not you expect to be there.  I'd like to know as soon as possible but definitely by Monday morning (8th) please, so that we can adjust the booking if necessary.

There is free parking (if available) on the street outside, round St Christopher's Green and in the 'fairground' car park reached from the turning past Shahanaz. 

April - Madhuban

The table is booked!  We return to the Madhuban in Liss on Wednesday 12th April. It's one of the top Indian/Bengali restaurants in the area and it's renowned for its fine cooking. We last went there in May and enjoyed some great food. You can see some pictures of the evening on Instagram.  

Aperitifs will be at the Whistlestop (GU33 7DS for your SatNav) from about 7 p.m. and then dinner will be at 8 p.m.

Spice Lounge in January!

We're looking forward to our first visit since the pandemic to the Spice Lounge, Petersfield.

When we go there, we often have a special, kulchi lamb, a slow-cooked whole leg, but we need really good numbers to order it (and eat it!).

I suggest this time we go for a variety of standard dishes - let's see what else the restaurant has to offer - but if at least eight members reply by Friday night asking for lamb, I'll see what we can do. 

Aperitifs will be at the Old Drum from about 7 pm and then dinner will be at 8.  Please let me know either by e-mail in response to this members' meeting notice or using the feedback page on our web site whether you expect to make it.  And if you really want the lamb special, please make it clear.
