Wednesday 13th December - Spice Lounge

We've moved the December meeting to Wednesday because a good number of members are interested in attending the charity Rugby  match at Petersfield RFC on Tuesday 12th.   Petersfield will take on a Royal Navy President's XV under floodlights - see the poster here.  The fixture will raise money for the Rosemary Foundation and the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charities.

Our table is booked at Spice Lounge for Wednesday 13th, and the kulchi lamb will be done the way we like it.  Aperitifs will be at the Old Drum from about 19:30 and then dinner will be at 20:30.  In order to know how many legs of lamb we need to order, please can members let me know by Sunday night (10th December) whether or not they expect to make it?  As usual, please respond using the feedback page on the web site or reply to the e-mail to be sent to members shortly.

We cancelled the November meeting because so many people were away, some of them in really exotic parts of the world.  We hope everyone is back in one piece for December.  Spice Lounge is a favourite and a fine way to round off the Curry Club year.  Looking forward to a great evening!

Tuesday 14th November - Paradise Balti

Updated 13th Nov: Meeting cancelled - too many people away!

The table is booked! As the pyrotechnics of the Bonfire Night weekend begin, it's time to let everyone know about the plans for the last two months of the year.

We'll be returning to the Paradise Balti for our November meeting on Tuesday 14th.  Aperitifs will be at the Old Drum, from about 19:30, and then dinner will be at 20:30.

Our final dinner of 2017 will be at the Spice Lounge on Tuesday 12th December.  Once again, we plan to meet beforehand at the Old Drum.  A notice will be sent out to members nearer the date.

In October, we had a most enjoyable evening at Chilli Nights, but not very many managed the long journey north from Petersfield to Haslemere.  Please let us know either using the  feedback page on the web site or in response to the e-mail notice to members whether you expect to be at Paradise Balti or not.

Paradise Balti are always very happy to see us and the staff make a big effort to please everyone.  Looking forward to a great evening!

Chilli Nights - Tues 10 October

The table is booked! Our October venue is Chilli Nights, Weyhill, Haslemere, where we'll meet on Tuesday 10th.  Aperitifs will be at the restaurant from about 19:30 and then we'll aim to start dinner soon after 20:30.

Please would members let me know by Sunday 8th whether they expect to be there, either using the feedback page on the web site, or in response to the e-mail notice to be sent out shortly. As well as on-street parking on Weyhill and round St Christoper's Green, there's lots of space on the Wey Hill 'fairground'  car park off St Christopher's Road, down the side of Shahanaz; there's a map at the bottom of this page.

The restaurant's home page says "Our Restaurant has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and is fully licensed. Our menu has also been heavily revised and includes many new dishes as well as a few of our Chef's own specialities."  So as usual we can look forward to some interesting and tasty food, and maybe something new too.

Bay Leaf again in September

By popular demand, we're back in Grayshott in September to visit the Bayleaf.  We had such a good evening in June that the overall feeling was that we should go again as soon as possible.  The chatpat starter was new to us all, and we've been promised another treat this time.

Our meeting is on Tuesday 12th.  We'll meet as usual at the Fox and Pelican for aperitifs from about 19:30 and then dinner is booked for 20:30.  Please sign up using the form on our web site or mail back in answer to the e-mail notice sent to members.  It's helpful to know as soon as possible, please, whether you expect to make it.  Looking forward to a great evening, interesting and tasty food, and some good fun.

Looking forward to a great evening!

Directions: Parking is easy in Grayshott - the Headley Road car park, the pub and the restaurant are all within 100 yards of each other.

Madhuban - Wednesday 9th

The table is booked and confirmed!  August's Petersfield Curry Club meeting will be at Madhuban on Wednesday 9th.  We'll meet for aperitifs at the Spread Eagle from about 19:30 and then enjoy a short drive or stroll (weather permitting) up to the restaurant for dinner at 20:30.

Please let me know either using the feedback page on the website or in reply to the notice sent to members whether you expect to make it or not.  To help plan, it would be helpful to hear by Monday night (7th).

I'm looking forward to this visit - Madhuban always impress with their fine cooking and attention to detail, as well as a friendly welcome.  Hope to see as many as possible next Wednesday.

Summer times!

In a flash of untypical efficiency (well, it was by accident really) the tables are already booked for both July and August.  Please note that both of these meetings will be on Wednesdays.

In July, we're going to Paradise Balti on Wednesday 12th; aperitifs will be at the Old Drum from about 19:30.  Dinner is booked for 20:30.    John and Fi will be your organisers on the evening; please let us know whether or not you expect to be there, ideally by Tuesday evening, so that we can help the restaurant to set up the right number of places.  You can use the feedback page on the web site or reply to the e-mail sent to members, but please let us know!

In August, we'll be going to Madhuban on Wednesday 9th.  That's one to put in your diary if you haven't already, but a separate notice will be sent nearer the date.

Have a great evening!

Bay Leaf - Tuesday 13th June!

By popular demand, we're back in Grayshott in June to visit the Bayleaf.  The table is booked, in fact it has been for over two weeks.  Some of our Friday 'early beers' crowd arrived rather late in the evening for late beers and a curry.  The food was excellent, one beer would have been enough, and my head was a little sore the next day.

We'll meet as usual at the Fox and Pelican for aperitifs from about 19:30 and then dinner is booked for 20:30.  Please sign up using the form on our web site or mail back in answer to the e-mail notice that will be sent to members.  Looking forward to a great evening, interesting and tasty food, and some good fun.

July: meeting on Wednesday 12th - the plan is to return to the Paradise Balti in sunny Petersfield.

Directions: Parking is easy in Grayshott - the Headley Road car park, the pub and the restaurant are all within 100 yards of each other. I wish it was so easy to embed a Google map in a Google (Blogger) posting but this seems to keep switching to one of the local estate agents.  I'm not sure whether this is aggressive marketing or bad technology but either way, it's a pain in the backside.

Tuesday 9th May - Malabon

The table is booked! This month our venue is Malabon, in Petersfield, for our meeting on Tuesday 9th.  We'll assemble at the Red Lion for aperitifs from about 19:30 and then dinner will be at 20:30.

Space is limited so I need to hear from members as soon as possible whether you plan to be there or not - ideally no later than Sunday night but the earlier the better.  You can reply to the members' e-mail notice which will be sent out soon after this blog post or instead use the feedback form on the web site.

Mysteriously, probably my mistake, the meeting notice here on Blogger for April went missing.  I've now reinstated it, including the review of the visit to Spice Lounge.  Moving on from that, we had an enjoyable evening in Grayshott, with a couple of pints in the Fox and Pelican before dinner at the Gurkha Durbar.  Some parts of the menu stood out - the Bombay potatoes in the starter and hot lamb curry were excellent, but all tastes were satisfied, with a selection of hot and medium chicken and lamb dishes as well as vegetable sides.  We'll have another visit to the northern end of our range soon, either in Haslemere or Grayshott.

But for now, I'm looking forward to our next meeting in Petersfield and enjoying Malabon's tasty cooking on Tuesday 9th.

12th April - Gurkha Durbar, Grayshott

The table is booked!  Our April meeting takes place in Grayshott on Wednesday 12th at the Gurkha Durbar.  Aperitifs will be at the Fox and Pelican from about 19:30, and then dinner is booked for 20:30 just up the road.  The Gurkha Durbar focuses on Nepalese food and has some delicacies that you don't find so often elsewhere, including choila, the delicious char-grilled lamb starter.

We need to give the restaurant as good an estimate of numbers as possible by Tuesday but an early reply is very helpful.  Note - this is a Wednesday booking, our first of the year, instead of the Tuesdays that we've been 'trying out' increasingly often since mid 2015.  Please reply to the e-mail notice sent to members or use the feedback form on our web site.  There's lots of parking in Grayshott including at the F&P, and three public car parks, as well as on the street.

A little report from our foray to Spice Lounge: the kulchi lamb was exceptional; the picture on the right gives an idea of the impressive presentation of the second leg that arrived after the first had been demolished.  We again thought the spicy version of kulchi lamb was tremendous - just enough to tickle the taste buds and make it a delicious variant on what can otherwise seem a little bland.

We'd had some late drop-outs, and there was too much for seven of us to eat; some of us had doggy bags to take away.  I can testify that the cold lamb made delicious lunchtime sandwiches for the rest of the week and also went extremely well with couscous for supper one evening.  They earned a Good review on TripAdvisor - well deserved.

Looking forward to a great evening on Wednesday 12th!

March - Spice Lounge

The table is booked and so is the kulchi lamb!  Our March meeting takes place on Tuesday 14th at the Spice Lounge in Petersfield.  We asked last time (June) for the kulchi lamb to be made spicy and the result was fantastic - people raved about it.  So we've asked for the same thing again.

Aperitifs will be at the Old Drum from about 19:30 and then dinner will be at the Spice Lounge (just a couple of minutes' walk from the pub) at 20:30.

We need to give the restaurant as good an estimate of numbers as possible by Monday so that the right amount of lamb can be given the slow slow treatment.  Please reply to the e-mail notice sent to members or use the feedback form on our web site.

Talking of web sites, the Spice Lounge seems to be making a real effort to improve its marketing.  Its web site www.spiceloungepetersfield.co.uk has a new modern look, they're trying to use Facebook effectively, and they even did a lunch 'thali for a pound'  offer for a few days at the beginning of February.  Great work, and we're looking forward to a great evening on Tuesday 14th.

Dhanmondi - Tue 21st February

The table is booked at last!  As we thought that restaurants would be full on Valentine's Night, we decided to postpone the February meeting to Tuesday 21st.

We're returning to Dhanmondi in Whitehill, our 12th visit to this venue.  It's often been our February choice since we first discovered it in 2006.   Thank you to the members that contacted me to why they'd heard nothing.  I planned to book on Sunday, missed the chance, then they were closed last night, so that's why this announcement is later than usual.

Aperitifs will be at the Woodlark, a Marstons pub just 150 yards away on the other side of the A325 from about 19:30.  I'm interested to see if they have a good range of the excellent Marstons bottled beers on sale - last time the choice was minimal.  Dinner will be at 20:30.   There's a map below or you can follow this Google Maps link for map and directions.  Parking is at the back of the restaurant.

Please let me know if you plan to be there, either using the feedback page on the web site or in reply to the MailChimp message which will be sent to members. Looking forward to a good evening on 21st!

Madhuban in January!

Happy New Year to all of our members!  We start 2017 with a visit to Madhuban, in Liss, on Tuesday 10th January.  Aperitifs will be at the Spread Eagle, Farnham Road, Liss from about 19:30 and then we'll arrive at the restaurant by 20:30 in time for dinner.   The Spread Eagle is a great pub with a magnificent log fire and good beers.  If instead you want to go direct to the restaurant, that's fine, but please let us know.

Madhuban is an absolutely top restaurant, a big favourite, and we need a good idea of numbers as early as possible.  Members are asked please to reply to the e-mail notice by Monday 18:00 latest or use the feedback form on the web site to let us know your plans.

Looking forward to some fantastic food on Tuesday 10th, a great way to kick off the New Year.
