Chilli Night(s)!

Happy New Year, and the table is booked for Petersfield Curry Club's first event of 2015!  January will see our return after a Curry Club gap of (would you believe it?) six years to one of my favourite restaurants, Chilli Night or Nights in Weyhill, Haslemere.  Since we were last there, the pub situation hasn't improved - the Crown and Cushion is now a set of flats; the Red Lion has been the Inn on the Green and the latest Google StreetView pictures show it as the Apple Tree.

So to keep things sensible, we're going to meet at the restaurant for aperitifs from 19:30, and then dinner will be at 20:30 as usual.  Members - please let me know through the feedback page of the website, or by reply to the e-mail notice, whether you expect to make it or not.  Chilli Night(s) serves wonderful food but doesn't have a huge number of covers - we need to let them know how many we will fill, and not over- or under- promise on our booking.

Why the confusion over Chilli Night or Nights?   The logo says one thing but the sign outside says more!  Whatever, it's never failed to produce exciting food.

Details: the restaurant is on Weyhill, Haslemere, about 6 minutes' walk from the station.  There's parking on the street outside,  but when that's full, there's a free public car park at the fairground, just off St Christopher's Road.  A search on Google Maps suggests that the Curry Club (founder Pat Chapman, author of the Good Curry Guide) is located just over the road from that car park!

Looking forward to a great evening on 14th!

December - Paradise Again!

The table is booked!  Our last meeting of the year takes place in Wednesday 10th in Petersfield, and will be a return to Paradise who looked after us so well in September and October.  Aperitifs will be taken at the Old Drum from 19:30, and then dinner will be at Paradise Balti at 20:30.

Please let us know either by e-mail or through the feedback page of the website if you expect to make it.  This will help us adjust the booking up or down depending on your plans.

Christmas is coming;  our Amazon shop has lots of recommendations, including books on Indian food, essential pub and restaurant guides, Kindle readers and books, real books, kitchen gear, and much more.  If you feel the urge to use it to buy presents, we should earn a little commission to boost the club kitty.  And the kitty buys beer!

Looking forward to a great evening on Wednesday 10th!

November meeting - Madhuban, Liss - Wed 12th

The table is booked, and after two meetings in Petersfield, we'll go to Liss for our November meeting.  The Madhuban is a huge favourite with our members and renowned for excellent food and a warm welcome.  Aperitifs will be at the Spread Eagle on Farnham Road from about 19:30 and then we'll make our way to the restaurant for dinner at 20:30.

Members will receive this notice by e-mail and are asked please to let us know as soon as possible yes, no or maybe - if the demand is big, we don't want to be short of places on the night.  If you prefer, please use the feedback page on the web site to let us know.

Christmas is coming, and our Amazon shop  has some suggestions for books about Indian food, 2015 eating and drinking guides, and lots of the usual Amazon goodies.  Every purchase can help earn a little for the Curry Club kitty, and as we no longer have a sponsor for the web site, it all helps.

Looking forward to a great evening and some fine food on Wednesday 12th!

October meeting - Paradise again!

The table is booked!  Paradise Balti looks forward to welcoming us again, on Wednesday 8th October; dinner is at 20:30, and aperitifs will be taken in the Old Drum from about 19:30.  John and Fiona will again be the  organisers on the evening, as your webmaster will be elsewhere.

Sadly the turnout in September was low in number with some having to cancel late in the day.  Nonetheless, those that made it though the food was great and the starters excellent.  Those who made it on the evening thought it so good that the rest of the Curry Club should be given the chance again in October.

Members will receive the usual e-mail so please respond to that or use the feedback page on the web site to let us have numbers.  Have a great evening!

September meeting - Paradise Balti, Petersfield

The table is booked!  Paradise Balti looks forward to welcoming us on Wednesday 10th September; dinner is at 20:30, and aperitifs will be taken in the Old Drum from about 19:30.  John and Fiona will be the  organisers on the evening, as your webmaster will be otherwise engaged.

We had a great meeting in August, when we visited the Gurkha Durbar in Grayshott.  The turnout was a record for August and the food proved it a good choice of venue.  The mixed starters were delicious, and the traditional lamb and chicken curries were absolutely superb.  In the end, despite a great turnout, there was more than we could eat, and one lucky member took home a doggy bag that sustained him for several days while his wife was away 'Up North'.  We noticed that the restaurant didn't offer papadums.  Too often, these do just enough to blunt the appetite, which can be a terrible shame.  Shock horror, with so much excellent food available, we didn't need them. A great time was had by all.

Members will receive the usual e-mail so please respond to that or use the feedback page on the web site to let us have numbers.  Have a great evening!
